Introduction

Welcome to Netvoyager's StratOS System, version 0.3 (aka Embers). StratOS is a thin client management system, designed to provide all the normal features an administrator would expect from a thin client management system plus an extendable framework. The StratOS framework is designed to be simple while giving the administrator unprecedented power in configuring and controlling their thin clients.

Using the StratOS Module Creator, developers and administrators can quickly wrap up 3rd party applications and configurations settings as sos modules, which can then be downloaded to other thin clients.

The client side OS is based on a Linux, SliTaz[1] OS (kudos SliTaz guys). The minimal OS is stored on the hard drive or a USB pen drive and booted completely into memory. The StratOS system allows the administrator to dynamically add modules and configurations to the running devices.

The granularity of StratOS modules allows for tiny distributions, the thin client contains as few programs as needed, tailored for the need of one user, and customisation only takes seconds.

The StratOS framework is OS agnostic, and with some extra development any Linux guru should be able to get it running on any Linux OS. Netvoyager is using SliTaz due to its small disk requirements and ability to run entirely in RAM.

Why?

Many thin clients have slowly been getting fatter, more and more client software installed to connect to the numerous server products available. This has resulted in thin clients becoming bloated with unnecessary software introducing potential security and updating problems, in fact right back to the desktop maintenance problems thin clients are meant to resolve. It is all well and good to have a feature rich thin client when you need one, but when you don't it is just a burden.

StratOS allows the administrator to use a very light weight stable OS and dynamically install only the applications needed.
